Enjoy the peace and quiet of country NSW on a 400-hectare family-run farm at Wantana Cottage Farmstay. Located 10km from the town of Boorowa, a 3.5-hour drive from Sydney, it’s a great base to explore the surrounding Hilltops region, renowned for its heritage walks, orchards and wineries. The three-bedroom cottage can accommodation up to eight guests.

Wilga Station offers a plush farm-stay experience, a short drive from the historic city of Bathurst, a three-hour drive from Sydney. The Shearers Hall, opening in winter 2021, will accommodate up to 10 guests within a former working shearing shed. The property comes stocked with all the local ingredients needed to whip up a gourmet breakfast come morning.

Soak up the serenity of the mighty Murray River with Dinky-Di Houseboat Holidays, based in Moama in the NSW Riverina region. These family-friendly houseboats range from 4 to 12 berths, with your choice of facilities and features. This is a wonderful way for groups to get out on the water, with activities such as fishing, kayaking and canoeing.

North Coast

Salt at Shoal Bay offers luxury beachside accommodation in coastal Port Stephens, a two-hour drive from Sydney. The main house is divided into two, self-contained levels, while a third freestanding cottage means there’s ample space for large groups. Spend the day swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking on the calm bay waters, or exploring Tomaree National Park, with its coastal walks and pretty beaches. Don’t miss the 2.2km Tomaree Head Summit Walk for spectacular views over Port Stephens and the north coast.

Flynns Beach Resort in Port Macquarie, a four-hour drive from Sydney, is made for a holiday with the kids. You can stroll directly to the sands of Flynns Beach or enjoy the resort’s two heated swimming pools, playground and tennis courts. The apartments are modern and spacious with two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and laundry facilities. Large balconies overlook lush subtropical gardens where kids might spot a water dragon, goanna and native birds.

Further north in Byron Bay, The Bower Byron Bay is a motel-turned-luxe boutique hotel with a collection of suites, a barn for couples, and a cottage and family house for larger groups. The Bower House features beautiful coastal styling and open-plan interiors, with a sheltered terrace, daybed and BBQ area.
