Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about Destination NSW’s promotion of tourism in New South Wales, destination facts and how to work with us.

How many regions are there in New South Wales?

Edged with over 2,000km of Pacific coastline, New South Wales is one of Australia’s most geographically diverse States, boasting vast outback plains to alpine high country and glorious pockets of rainforest, not to mention one of the world’s most striking cities, Sydney.

How many beaches are there in New South Wales? 

New South Wales is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches. The coastline stretches for over 2,000km and is dotted with countless picture-perfect spots for swimming, surfing, snorkelling and sunbaking, as well as more than 100 ocean pools – a quintessential New South Wales experience.  

Sydney’s beaches are also world-renowned, with the Harbour City offering hundreds of beaches, waterways and secret coves to explore.

Does New South Wales have wineries?

New South Wales boasts 14 unique and distinctive wine regions. These include the oldest wine growing region in Australia – the world-famous Hunter Valley, as well as regions such as Orange, Mudgee, Shoalhaven, the Southern Highlands and the Canberra District.   

New South Wales is also home to Sydney, whose world class dining scene boasts internationally acclaimed chefs and a fusion of flavours, cultures, fresh local produce, waterfront restaurants and bustling multicultural neighbourhoods.

How cold is it in winter in New South Wales?

This varies across the state, but July is generally the coldest month, with an average range of 8–17°C (46–61°F). The warmest month is January, with an average temperature of 19–26°C (65–78°F) and up to 30°C (86°F). Stay up to date on weather through the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology

How does Destination NSW work with media?

Destination NSW has a team of in-house publicists who engage with a range of different media daily to coordinate activities and assist with content ideas for Sydney and Regional NSW. Programs include hosting visiting media; managing media relationships; conducting global outreach activities to pitch stories to media; implementing promotional events; and developing media resources.

I am not media, how do I access imagery and video to promote New South Wales?

The Destination NSW Content Library is a resource of inspiring NSW content for media and industry access for the purpose of promoting NSW tourism experiences. It provides the tourism industry, travel media, government agencies and select commercial partners with a range of free assets that can be used to promote New South Wales as a travel destination. There are over 25,000 images of NSW destinations, experiences and events in both city and regional locations, as well as high-definition footage and editorial copy.
