2025 POWERHOUSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
Expressions of Interest are now open for the Powerhouse Residency Program.
The program invites applications from NSW-based practitioners and organisations across the applied arts and sciences whose work aligns with Powerhouse programs and The Collection.
Now in its seventh year, the Powerhouse Residency Program has supported multidisciplinary practitioners at different career stages, fostering dynamic collaborations between residents, researchers and the Powerhouse curatorial, programming and learning teams.
From July 2025, Powerhouse will provide selected residents with dedicated subsidised workspaces at Powerhouse Ultimo. As part of the program, they will also receive access to the Powerhouse Research Library, Collection and Archive to support the development of their practice. In return, residents will collaborate with Powerhouse teams to develop and deliver engaging public programs for diverse Powerhouse audiences.
Applications will be assessed by a selection committee comprising representatives from Powerhouse, Powerhouse Foundation University Partner — the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) — and independent industry representatives.
Powerhouse is currently home to 17 residents including the Australian Fashion Council; designer, artist and creative producer Anna Tregloan; multidisciplinary artist NELL; internationally renowned fashion duo Romance Was Born (Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales); not-for-profit screen organisation Co-Curious; creative digital studio Kopi Su; audio-specialist creative agency Eardrum and sustainable fashion designer Iordanes Spyridon Gogos (ISG).
Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah said, ‘Powerhouse is proud to support NSW applied arts and science industries through our Residency Program, which has amplified the work of multidisciplinary practitioners since 2018 while also significantly contributing to the museum and the broader cultural landscape of New South Wales. I am excited to collaborate with new Powerhouse residents during such an exciting chapter in the museum’s history.’
Powerhouse Resident Anna Tregloan said, ‘Immersion in the Powerhouse as it evolves along with access to the knowledge and content it has always held, is an inspiring opportunity as an artist. The physical studio space gives me the opportunity to explore and experiment in ways not otherwise possible and being part of a creative hub inspires new directions and thinking.’
Powerhouse Resident Romance Was Born said, ‘We love working from Powerhouse as part of the Residency Program. There is such a nice mix of artists and creative practices here that makes you feel part of a community. It’s also an exciting time to see the site’s redevelopment and we are very much looking forward to the bright next phase of Powerhouse Ultimo.’
Expressions of Interest for the Powerhouse Residency Program are open until 5pm, 30 May 2025. Selected residents will be notified from 20 June 2025.

About Powerhouse
Powerhouse sits at the intersection of arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. We are undertaking a landmark $1.3 billion infrastructure renewal program, spearheaded by the creation of the new museum, Powerhouse Parramatta; expanded research and public facilities at Powerhouse Castle Hill; the renewal of the iconic Powerhouse Ultimo; and the ongoing operation of Sydney Observatory. The museum is custodian to over half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia. We are also undertaking an expansive digitisation project that will provide new levels of access to the Powerhouse Collection.
