50 Days Out: Sydney’s Summer of Cricket Set to Ignite!
Sydney’s stage is set for the NRMA Insurance Men’s Ashes Series, with 50 days to go until the fifth and final Test Match of the series - the legendary Pink Test – taking place from 4–8 January 2026 at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Sydney will see around 120,000 fans attend the SCG during the international summer of cricket which includes the Ashes Test Match and the men’s ODI and Women’s T20, both against India.
Public tickets to days one to three of the Pink Test are exhausted, while a limited number of tickets remain for day four.
The English Barmy Army has travelled over 17,000 km to support their team, but Aussie fans will be out in force as Australia aims to retain the Ashes for a third consecutive series.
Minister for Jobs and Tourism and Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, said: “The New Year’s Test Match at the SCG sets the tone for the national sporting calendar every year. It’s such an iconic event that has also taken on special meaning with the ‘Pink Test’, featuring Jane McGrath Day on day three being an incredibly important occasion for so many. As the final Test Match of the Ashes series, the 50-day build up is even more exciting.
“Thousands of Aussie fans and England’s Barmy Army are going to create an incredible atmosphere at the nation’s historic home of cricket. Along with our golden beaches, vibrant nightlife and vast cultural offerings, visiting fans will see why Sydney is renowned as one of the world’s great stages for international sporting experiences.”
With this Test being the last of the series, it’s set to be a high-stakes showdown that may determine the fate of the Ashes. It also marks England’s first return to the SCG since the gripping 2022 Ashes Series, adding extra fire to an already fierce rivalry.
Cricket Australia CEO, Todd Greenberg said: “The NRMA Insurance Pink Test at the SCG is always one of the great highlights on the cricket calendar and will be particularly special this year as the climax to a much-anticipated Ashes series.
"We're very grateful for the support of Destination NSW in enhancing the event and helping us provide a fantastic experience for all those travelling to the match.”
Australian international cricketer and spin-bowler Nathan Lyon said: “The SCG is one of Australia’s most celebrated sporting venues and the Pink Test is always a highlight on the Australian summer cricket calendar. With 50 days to go, if you are still thinking about coming along to the SCG to support us, now is your last chance to get tickets.”
NSW welcomed more than 40,000 international visitors for the British and Irish Lion’s Tour of Australia, highlighting the economic and cultural benefit that major events provide to NSW. The NRMA Insurance Men’s Ashes Series is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to the NSW visitor economy, contributing to the state’s record-breaking $55.9 billion in annual tourism expenditure in FY25.
Sydney’s summer of cricket doesn’t end there, with the SCG hosting Australia v India Women’s T20 International Match on 15 February 2026.
