The Bowral Classic Road Closures and Special Guest Announcement
The 8th annual Bowral Classic Cycling Gran Fondo is returning to the Southern Highlands of New South Wales on Sunday, 20 October.
Close to 3,000 riders are registered for the 2024 event, with participants travelling from across Australia and internationally to participate. Riders from nine different countries, including Japan, USA, UK, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Denmark, Norway and New Zealand, will join in on the challenge and soak up the stunning Southern Highlands scenery.
The event will kick off from the Bong Bong St Start Line in Bowral at 6:30am with Judy Hannan MP, Member for Wollondilly, firing the start gun.
Hannan commented; "Every year the community of Wollondilly and Southern Highlands look forward to the Bowral Classic, the event provides a huge boost to tourism for our local businesses, and I wish all the participants the very best of luck on their ride!"
Cyclists will take on one of three road cycling courses ranging from 85km to 150km. All courses have been designed to highlight the best of the region’s rolling hills and breathtaking views, with riders passing through the quaint country towns of Berrima, Moss Vale, Bundanoon, Fitzroy Falls, Robertson and Glenquarry.
In a special appearance, the Bowral Classic will welcome Australian Olympian, Connor Leahy, to the event. Leahy, a recent gold medallist in track cycling at the Paris Olympics, will be riding in the 150km Maxi Classic course before participating in a Q&A and meet-and-greet with fans at the Event Village between 1:30pm – 3:00pm.
All are welcome to join in on the Event Village festivities between 10:00am – 4:00pm on Sunday, 20 October at Loseby Park, Bowral. In addition to Leahy’s appearance, spectators can cheer on the riders as they pass through the finish line, enjoy live music, a selection of local bars, food trucks, children’s activities and cycling exhibitor stalls.
