A Feast Under Open Skies: Riverina Good Food Weekend Launching September 2025
Farm Door invites you to experience the heart of the Riverina like never before at the Riverina Long Lunch & Good Food Weekend, taking place 20–21 September 2025 on a picturesque family farm between Wagga Wagga and Junee.
Set against a sweeping landscape painted gold with canola, this slow food celebration is a weekend-long invitation to gather, feast, and connect with the land and its makers. The headline event? A long, lazy lunch beneath wide open skies, with fire-cooked dishes crafted by celebrity chef Charly Pretet of Terra Firma Dining using all local produce sourced from the Riverina area.
Guests can expect:
- Farm-to-fire feasting led by Charly Pretet and Terra Firma dining
- Live music drifting on the breeze
- Local cocktails and produce from regional artisans
- An unforgettable afternoon among friends, flavour, and the golden fields of spring
“This isn’t just a meal—it’s a moment,” says Farm Door founder, Zoe Lamont. “We’re creating space to slow down, share stories, celebrate and connect with the growers and makers that make the Riverina so special.”
Known as the 'Food Bowl of Australia', the Riverina is one of the most productive and diverse agricultural regions in the country. The area contributes over 25% of NSW’s fruit and vegetables, produces 90% of the state’s citrus, 80% of its wine grapes, and generates more than $1 billion in annual agricultural output. Stretching across a fertile floodplain supported by the Murrumbidgee irrigation system, the Riverina is renowned for its wine, rice, citrus, lamb, and artisan produce. It’s a landscape shaped by generations of growers, and a destination celebrated for its rich food culture and hospitality.
We’re extraordinarily fortunate to live in a food bowl, yet so much of our produce is shipped out then as locals we buy it back in again, with multiple middle men profiting in between. At a time when farming and regional manufacturing is facing real challenges, the Riverina Good Food Weekend initiative is about connecting our local growers and makers with both locals and city visitors. It's about the opportunity to taste produce fresh off the farm or coals and to feel the love and magic behind the scenes’
With limited tickets available and high demand expected, visitors are encouraged to book early and bring their appetite for flavour, community, and a truly unique regional experience.
Following the long lunch on Saturday is a series of leisurely events including floristry workshops and the Sunday Drive. The Sunday Drive takes you across the Junee, Temora, Coolamon & Wagga Wagga LGAs with pop up tastings, kids workshops, flower picking and feasting around every new corner... Sunday Drive Tickets are packed full of vouchers and exciting farm gate experiences and are per car so you don't have to lock in your fellow road-trippers yet, just purchase a ticket so you don't miss out!
The Riverina Long Lunch & Good Food Weekend is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
