Final Schedule of Shows and Programming For Afterpay Australian Fashion Week

IMG, the owner and operator of Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW), today announced its final schedule of runway shows and programming for AAFW 2023. AAFW is produced by FOCUS., IMG’s in house production arm, and will take place 15 – 19 May, live in Sydney and virtually at AAFW.com.au. The schedule is now available at AAFW.com.au/schedule.

“The 2023 schedule features the next generation of Australian designers defining the future of Australian fashion alongside some of the industry’s biggest names and celebrates the ingenuity and unmatched creative talent of our country,” said Natalie Xenita, Vice President-Managing Director of IMG Fashion Events and Properties, Asia-Pacific. “The Australian fashion industry is a global powerhouse and AAFW in Sydney is its keystone. IMG is proud to support Australian designers and creatives no matter what stage of their career journey they are at.”

AAFW will feature 45 designer runway shows and presentations from new and notable names including Acler, Albus Lumen, ALÉMAIS, Alix Higgins, Aje, Anna Quan, Asiyam, Auteur, BEC + BRIDGE, Bianca Spender, Blanca, BONDI BORN, Caroline Reznik, Christian Kimber, COMMAS, Gail Sorronda, Haulier, Henne, INJURY, Joslin, macgraw, Mariam Seddiq, Nicol & Ford, Phoebe Pendergast, SARAH & SEBASTIAN, Speed, St. Agni, Verner, Wackie Ju, Wynn Hamlyn, Youkhana, and Yousef Akbar, among others.

IMG will continue to support and champion First Nations designers in various capacities, with AAFW showcasing 11 First Nations fashion designers including:

  • Ngali
  • David Jones Indigenous Fashion Projects Runway presented by Afterpay featuring Gali Swimwear, Gammin Threads, Ihraa Swim, Joseph & James, Kamara, Lazy Girl Lingerie, and Miimi and Jiinda
  • IMG’s Next Gen presented by DHL 2023 winner Liandra Swim
  • We Wear Australian x Afterpay, AAFW’s closing night show featuring Aarli and MAARA Collective

AAFW: The Talks presented by Glenfiddich, IMG’s slate of curated conversations and special events, will include:

  • The Talks Opening Reception – 15 May at 5pm in Glenfiddich’s Whisky Wanderer, hosted by IMG Fashion Events Vice President-Managing Director Natalie Xenita
  • Gender Diversity and the Fashion Industry – In conversation with designer Jackie Wu, IMG model Manahou Mackay and model Kai Clancy
  • I Love the Nightlife: Club Culture and Fashion – a panel conversation featuring multidisciplinary artist Byron Spencer, model and casting director Basjia Almaan and Sydney queer icon Jonny Seymour moderated by fashion journalist Isabelle Truman
  • New Voices in Fashion Criticism – featuring fashion researcher and digital creator Kim Russell and @upnextdesigner’s Albert Ayal moderated by Vogue Australia’s Jonah Waterhouse
  • On Trend: Key Directions in Australian Fashion – In conversation with Net-a-Porter’s Market Director Libby Page, Harper’s Bazaar Features and Fashion News Director Patty Huntington, Stylist Miguel Urbina Tan, Urban List Fashion Editor Sammy Preston, and IMG Fashion Events and Properties Asia-Pacific’s Vice President-Managing Director Natalie Xenita moderated by POPSUGAR publisher Amanda Bardas

To celebrate the new guard of creatives leveraging fashion as a cultural catalyst, IMG’s Changemakers program, now in it’s third year, will spotlight the work and careers of Asia Hassan, Basjia Almaan, Jackie Wu, James Parr, Miguel Urbina Tan, and Mike Nguyen. IMG’s initiatives to expand support of participating AAFW designers this season include:

  • AAFW: The Experience: IMG’s consumer integrated model allowing fashion fans to experience firsthand their favorite designer shows. Tickets to shows including Michael Lo Sordo, Gary Bigeni, Karla Špetić, Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, Erik Yvon, Cue and more are now available at AAFW.com.au
  • AAFW: By Appointment: AAFW’s virtual showrooms, hosted on JOOR, which are valued at over USD $10,000 per listing and reach 380,000 retailers across 150 countries
  • IMG will host international buyers this season including Browns, Le Bon Marche, Net-a-Porter, Nordstrom, and Moda Operandi to boost international trade outcomes for participating designers

In continued partnership with City of Sydney, IMG will implement sustainable event initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of AAFW whilst offering a platform to celebrate and explore sustainable fashion. Entering its fifth year, AAFW’s strategic sustainability roadmap supports sustainable event operations via waste minimisation, resource management and energy efficiency. Sustainability partner Made By Fressko will provide approximately 2,500 reusable water bottles to all staff, eliminating the presence of single use plastics bottles at the event.
