Mt Tumbarumba Mountain Bike Park Officially Opens - A Premier Adventure Destination In The Snowy Valleys, NSW
The Mt Tumbarumba Mountain Bike Park will open for visitors from 31 March onwards.
After years of vision, dedication, and sheer determination, Mt Tumbarumba Bike Park will, celebrate the official opening on Saturday 29 March with a community “muster” event in the local park. The opening marks a milestone for adventure tourism in the Snowy Valleys region. Designed to be a premier destination for mountain biking enthusiasts, the park offers an exhilarating experience with gravity-focused trails, breathtaking rugged granite landscapes, and a deep connection to the resilience of the Tumbarumba community.
The park joins a network of world-class riding destinations in Southern NSW, further solidifying the region’s reputation as a must-visit location for mountain bikers from across Australia and beyond. Mt Tumbarumba boasts:
- 22km of gravity-focused trails with 315m of elevation, designed to challenge and inspire riders of all skill levels;
- Shuttle service or 6km of dedicated climbing trails to get you to the top; and
- 8km Hiking Trail – a challenging scenic loop that ascends through alpine forests and granite outcrops, offering stunning views.
The opening of Mt Tumbarumba Bike Park is a testament to the unwavering spirit of the local community. When bushfires devastated the region, the people of Tumbarumba saw an opportunity to rebuild in a way that would drive economic growth, tourism, and adventure-driven experiences. After securing $3.4 million AUD from the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant, the local cycling club had to purchase the land themselves via a uniquely rural fundraiser with local farmers donating cows that were auctioned off alongside donations from local businesses and residents. In a single evening, over $141,000 AUD was raised, and with the help of grants from the Tumbarumba Community Bank and The Hyne Community Trust, the grassroots effort made the purchase of Mt Tumbarumba possible and has transformed fire-scarred land into a premier mountain biking park.
"This park is more than just trails—it’s a story of resilience, determination, and the power of community,” said Peter Marshall, president of the local cycling club behind the initiative. “We’ve created something special here that will put Tumbarumba on the map as an adventure destination, while also providing a space for locals and visitors to enjoy our incredible landscape.”
Beyond the adrenaline-fuelled trails, Tumbarumba offers a complete adventure getaway with gravel and cross-country cycling networks, the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail and a pump track and bike playground ensuring there is something for everyone. A destination for unwinding, and reconnecting with nature, visitors can take advantage of great fly fishing, hiking and outdoor adventures as well as award-winning cool climate wines, craft breweries and distilleries, local produce and country hospitality after a day’s exploring.
The Mt Tumbarumba Mountain Bike Park is Australia’s first community-owned and operated mountain bike park. As a paid access facility with a range of pass options available, visitors can enjoy the adventure knowing that the fees contribute to maintaining and developing the trails and facilities into the future.
The Hon Kristy McBain MP, Member for Eden-Monaro Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories expressed that, "Eden-Monaro is leading the way when it comes to adventure tourism - and I'm so proud to have helped fund this amazing park. The park highlights our breathtaking natural assets and is going to provide an incredible economic boost to the Snowy Valleys region. Congratulations to all involved with this project - I can't wait to get out there with the family and have some fun."
Federal Member for Riverina Hon Michael McCormack MP, said he was pleased to see such a positive local approach to rebuild the community after the devastation of the 2019-20 bushfires.
"The Tumbarumba and wider Snowy Valleys region continues to build a strong reputation as a destination for adventure tourists,” Mr McCormack said. “With such wonderful natural beauty, investing in the local adventure tourism economy through a $3.4 million Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant, backed by a strong community spirit to raise money to support this project, is certainly a worthwhile endeavour in which the local community will benefit for many years.”
Made possible by the local community, sponsors and private donors, the Mt Tumbarumba Mountain Bike Park project received grant funding from the Australian Government Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Fund.
