MUNDI MUNDI BASH STRIKES A NEW NOTE WITH ‘BASH CHOIR’ FOR 2026

MUNDI MUNDI BASH STRIKES A NEW NOTE WITH ‘BASH CHOIR’ FOR 2026

The Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash is turning up the volume at the 2026 event with the launch of an all-new, all-in singalong experience set to bring thousands of voices together in the world’s biggest outback choir on day two of the three day festival.

Event organisers have today announced the all new Bash Choir - a fun, feel-good event that invites festivalgoers to become part of a choir raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The new Bash Choir event will replace the Nutbush world record attempt and will be the world’s biggest outback choir.

Taking place on Friday August 21 from 9.45am, thousands of Bash-goers will gather in the main concert area, split into vocal sections to learn the iconic “Simply The Best” – in a nod to the Nutbush/Tina Turner connections of previous years - before performing it together in a powerful, shared moment.

No experience is needed. Sing, hum or just soak it all in.

Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said, “The Mundi Mundi Bash has become one of regional NSW's great events, drawing thousands of people to the outback and showcasing exactly the kind of unique, world-class experience our state does better than anywhere else. The Bash Choir is a brilliant addition, thousands of voices coming together under the outback sky, raising money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service while making memories that will last a lifetime. That's what the Minns Labor Government is proud to support, events that put regional NSW on the map and give back to the communities that make them possible."

Event founder and Outback Music Festival Group Managing Director Greg Donovan said, “Our new Bash Choir isn’t about hitting perfect notes. It is about connection, fun and creating a moment that stays with you long after you’ve sung the chords.  As so many of our festivalgoers have been long term participants in our Nutbush world record attempts we wanted to give them something new to take part in.  Last year at the Mundi Mundi Bash 6,779 people created a new Nutbush world record so we’re anticipating that thousands of our festival goers will participate in the inaugural Bash Choir.”

Tickets to be part of the new Bash Choir will go on-sale on June 16, and will also be available from the Royal Flying Doctor Service at the event for $25 per adult and $15 for under 18’s.

Greg Sam, CEO of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section), said, "The Bash Choir is a wonderful new way for thousands of people to come together, have a great time and make a real difference for communities that depend on the Flying Doctor every single day. The Outback Music Festival Group has been an extraordinary partner – together we've now raised over $760,000 for the RFDS, funding that goes directly to our aircraft, our teams and the people across Far West NSW who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. For an organisation that relies on donations for a third of its operating costs, this kind of community generosity is nothing short of vital."

"Having thousands of Bash-goers right on the doorstep of our Broken Hill base – the birthplace of the RFDS, operational since 1936 and today the largest RFDS base in Australia – is a powerful thing. When people experience firsthand the vast red distances that stretch out beyond those Mundi Mundi Plains, they begin to understand what it truly means to be hundreds of kilometres from the nearest hospital. That perspective is exactly why support like the Bash Choir matters so much. Every dollar raised helps ensure that no matter how far someone is from care, the Flying Doctor can reach them," said Mr Sam.

Taking the Bash Choir through their paces as song leaders will be Robyn Loau and Miranda Carey from the Bash house Band.  Both Loau and Carey are well known to Bash audiences having performed alongside a huge roll call of Australia’s best artists across six years of both the Big Red Bash and the Mundi Mundi Bash.

The pairs crystalline voices and infectious energy will help bring the crowd together in one massive outback choir.

“We were part of the Bash tribute to Tina Turner in 2023 just after she passed, and then the following year as well - and she has had a connection with the event via the Nutbush. We can’t wait to lead the Bash audience in learning her Simply The Best song.  The Bash audience are one of the most responsive we’ve ever performed in front of so we’re sure they’ll create a really special moment out on those beautiful Mundi Mundi Plains,” said Robyn Loau and Miranda Carey.

Joining Robyn and Miranda in leading the choir will be Choirmaster Brydon Stace who is Sydney Conservatorium of Music trained, has performed with major choirs across the country as well as a soloist here and internationally, and is lauded as a vocal coach on The Voice and Australian Idol. Brydon was first headhunted for his current role of Vocal Director of The Voice Australia in Season 1 and has also been head of the Vocal Department on Australian Idol.

Working as a team Loau, Carey and Stace will guide participants through warm-ups, teach vocal parts and bring it all together for a rousing performance of Simply the Best backed by the Bash Band.

“I have performed at major venues both in Australia and the UK – but being on the incredible outback stage on the Mundi Mundi Plains will be such a different experience to the Opera House. I have heard such awesome things about the Bash events; I can’t wait to be part of it in this very fun and unique way – bringing people together and creating something powerful as a community. You don’t need to be a singer; you just need to be willing to have a go to be part of it. When thousands of voices come together out there on the red earth it is going to be incredible and I can’t wait to lead it with Robyn and Miranda,” said Brydon Stace.

Added Greg Donovan, “We have a long history of supporting incredible charities, and this is another way for our community to come together, have a lot of fun and make a real difference.  We were born out of charity fundraising for diabetes research at the Birdsville Big Red Bash and that tradition of giving back is something our family holds dear. We’re proud that our patrons and events have raised significant funds for charities across Australia.”

In 2025 alone, the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash raised more than $220,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, while the Big Blue Day delivered an incredible $224,000 for Beyond Blue to fund mental health support services nationwide.

Across both the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash and Birdsville Big Red Bash more than $1 million has been raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The Bash Choir continues that legacy, with all participation funds going directly to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, giving festivalgoers the chance to sing loud and give back.

“Our Bash goers were always so fantastic with dressing up to take part in the Nutbush, or even our Mad Max dress up, with many opting to go with their interpretation of Tina Turner’s style. By performing Simply the Best we’re hoping they’ll still bring their Tina wigs and whatever else they might have to really get into the spirit of the moment visually as well as vocally. And we’re staging the Mad Max gathering straight after the choir – so anyone who does get into Tina character for the choir will then be able to join in the Mad Max gathering straight afterwards,” said Greg Donovan.

The Mundi Mundi Bash is widely regarded as Outback Australia’s biggest and most unique music festival, drawing around 15,000 people to a one-of-a-kind destination just outside Broken Hill.

With an all-Australian lineup featuring some of the country’s most iconic artists, three days of music, camping under endless skies and a welcoming, all-ages and dog-friendly atmosphere, the Bash delivers something truly special.

Tickets for the 2026 Mundi Mundi Bash are more than 95% sold already, and with excitement building around new experiences like Bash Choir, tickets are expected to sell out well ahead of August.
