The Minns Labor Government is putting Sydney on show, as the latest icon on Sydney’s foreshore - the new Sydney Fish Market - will host a three-week twilight Concert Series, bringing live music, fresh seafood and harbourfront energy to the heart of the celebrations.

Kicking off on Saturday 21 February the Fish Market’s New Wave Concert Series, will feature emerging Australian acts including powerhouse rock duo Big Wheels, disco funk band Bread Club and indie pop singer Yorke.

The Minns Labor Government is focused cementing NSW as the nation’s premier destination for major events and tourism and these free concerts will transform the harbourside landmark into a vibrant summer destination for locals and visitors alike.

The concert series will take place from 5pm – 8pm following on from a week-long Lunar New Year celebration at the Fish Market from 17 to 21 February, with lion dances, behind-the-scenes tours, Sydney Seafood School experiences and family activities welcoming in the Year of the Horse and showcasing the precinct’s unique blend of food, culture and entertainment.

Close to 600,000 people have already visited the new Sydney Fish Market in its first three weeks of trading, cementing its status as one of the city’s hottest new destinations and a major new drawcard for international and interstate visitors.

Celebrated by more than one billion people worldwide Lunar New Year continues to drive strong visitation to NSW, particularly from key international markets.

The Sydney Fish Market program forms part of the wider Sydney Lunar Festival — the largest celebration of its kind outside Asia with events across Burwood, Chatswood, Cabramatta, Campsie, Eastwood and Hurstville bringing streets and precincts to life.

Operating from early morning through to late evening, the new Fish Market functions as a traditional working fish market by day before transforming into a buzzing waterfront dining and entertainment precinct at night, with venues including Tam Jiak, Hamsi Taverna, Mani, The BoatShed, Touch Wood and Ichie drawing strong crowds.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:

“The new Sydney Fish Market has something for everyone open from early morning right through to evening, with plenty to see and do across the day - whether it’s a peek into the early morning auction, lunch by the water, an after-work drink or dinner at one of the late night restaurants.

“The concert series will enhance the atmosphere and experience for diners and visitors who make their way to Fish Market in the early evening.”

Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper said:

“The new Sydney Fish Market is a spectacular addition to our harbour and has already drawn in more than half a million visitors to our harbour.

“There is no doubt that this is a world-class stage, which is exactly why we are getting some of Australia’s best emerging artists to bring the entertainment to this iconic landmark.

“Whether it is the New Wave Concert Series or Lunar New Year celebrations, we are focused on bringing our communities together and showcasing NSW to the world as a vibrant destination for culture, food and major events, as we work towards our target of $91 billion in annual visitor expenditure by 2035.”
