Revamped light to light walk opens on the NSW Far South Coast
Experience the wild beauty of the NSW Far South Coast on the Light to Light Walk, in Beowa National Park on Yuin Country near Eden, now better than ever after major upgrades including new campgrounds and track sections.
The 32km walk, delivered by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), hugs spectacular coastline, starting at historic Boyds Tower and finishing at the iconic Green Cape Lighthouse.
Walkers weave through an ever-changing landscape of red cliff tops, sheltered coves, eucalypt forest and coastal heathland, and enjoy spotting diverse wildlife including seasonal migrating whales, seals and seabirds.
The upgraded walk features two new purpose-built hike-in campgrounds, scenically located by the ocean at Mowarry Point and Hegartys Bay, with 10 elevated hardwood sleeping platforms and toilet facilities at each.
Further improvements include a new track from Bittangabee Bay to Green Cape, connecting walkers with rock platforms, as well as realignment of some existing track to follow the coastline, providing even more spectacular views.
The Light to Light Walk is best experienced as a 3-day, 2-night walk, with new campgrounds available for multi-day walkers at the end of each day.
NPWS recommends starting with a gentle 9km walk on day one, beginning at Boyds Tower and finishing at Mowarry Point. The suggested second day route consists of 10km of walking to Hegartys Bay, with 13km on the last day, finishing at the southernmost lighthouse in NSW, Green Cape Lighthouse.
Experienced walkers can tackle the track carrying their own packs and supplies by booking a 2-night self-guided camping experience. Optional transfer services are available from Merimbula and Eden to assist with transport to and from the track.
Visitors who prefer some extra support, including an expert guide, gear transfers and meals, can book a tour with one of several local operators.
Those seeking a shorter experience can explore sections of the multi-day walk, or other nearby day walks, with varying lengths and difficulty on offer.
The $14.9 million Light to Light Walk upgrades were jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund and NPWS.
The Light to Light Walk is one of seven NSW Great Walks - a growing network of multi-day walks in NSW national parks designed to offer world-class walking experiences for domestic and international visitors.
