Ripper GC Star Herbert Set to Return for NSW Open
LIV Golf Star Lucas Herbert will link up with his Ripper GC team captain, Cameron Smith, in a milestone return to this year’s NSW Open Golf Championship as part of his Australian summer schedule.
The Bendigo native will kick off his summer of golf at this year's NSW Open, a tournament where he almost secured his first professional win in 2017.
The 28-year-old golfer has fond memories of Murray Downs Golf & Country Club, where the championship will be held from November 14 to 17th. It was a venue where Herbert admitted he had some special memories from his formative years as an up-and-coming junior golfer.
"I nearly got my first pro win at the NSW Open, so I'm very keen to get back and play the tournament again, especially at Murray Downs, where I have had some success as a teenager and am experienced given how close it is to home," Herbert said.
Following his appearance at Murray Downs, Herbert will compete in the BMW Australian PGA Championship before heading to Kingston Heath and The Victoria Golf Clubs for the Australian Open.
The three-tournament stretch marks an important chapter in his season and underscores his commitment to performing on home soil.
Herbert's dedication to playing in Australia has drawn attention from the golf community, with his four-event commitment making him eligible for the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit and the rewards it offers.
The rising Australian golf star is eager to continue his strong form, playing alongside the next generation of local talent keen to follow in the Victorian star's footsteps.
Besides Herbert and Smith, several other high-profile professionals have also committed to the NSW Open, including former champions Harrison Crowe (2022), Josh Younger (2019), Jake McLeod (2018), Aaron Townsend (2008), and Rick Kulacz (2006).
2006 US Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy is also a confirmed starter.
The 2024 NSW Open will be broadcast nationally on the Seven Network. Spectator tickets are available at the tournament website www.nswopen.com , through Eventbrite.
The 2024 NSW Open Golf Championship is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
