Sydney Marathon meets Sydney's most Colourful Precinct.
When more than 35,000 runners take to the streets for the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS on Sunday 30 August, one stretch of the course will offer an experience unlike anywhere else in the city.
Situated in the Oxford Street Rainbow Precinct, Sydney Marathon's official Pride Party will transform Taylor Square and Oxford Street into one of the city's most colourful spectator destinations, inviting runners, supporters and visitors to experience one of Sydney's most iconic cultural corridors from Hyde Park to Taylor Square, before the course continues via Flinders Street and Anzac Parade towards Moore Park.
Home to the world-famous Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, Oxford Street has long been a place where people gather to celebrate, connect and express themselves. On Marathon Sunday, that same spirit of community and inclusion will take centre stage once again.
At the heart of the celebration, Taylor Square will become the marathon's official Pride Party zone, with live music, drag entertainment and a 200-seat viewing stand giving spectators a front-row spot to soak up the action and cheer on the runners.
One of the Rainbow Precinct’s biggest advantages is that the marathon passes along Oxford Street twice, giving spectators two opportunities to cheer on competitors without leaving their viewing spot. Rather than following the race across the city, visitors can settle into the precinct, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the day’s celebrations as the runners return later in the morning.
Come for the marathon. Stay for Oxford Street.
From 7.00am until around 3.00pm, visitors are encouraged to make a day of it. Early risers can grab a coffee and breakfast before finding the perfect viewing position, then settle in at Taylor Square for the Pride Party and watch the marathon pass through the precinct twice. And there's plenty to see and do between the runners.
With iconic Oxford Street pubs including Kinselas, the Courthouse Hotel and The Oxford right on Taylor Square, there'll be no shortage of places to grab a drink and cheer on the runners. Darlinghurst's much-loved café and food scene offers plenty of options for breakfast, brunch and lunch, while those looking to explore can discover the new Oxford & Foley precinct, including Mecca Coffee's striking new Foley Street café and Mapo's seasonal gelato and granita on Oxford Street.
Grab a slice from Pauli's or AP Pizza, browse the new shops, find a sunny spot around Taylor Square and watch the spectacle unfold, or escape the main crowds and explore the streets of Darlinghurst. With the marathon passing through the Rainbow Precinct twice, there's plenty of reason to stay awhile.
Rainbow Precinct Manager Lorraine Lock said the marathon was an opportunity to showcase Oxford Street to thousands of interstate and international visitors while celebrating everything that makes the precinct unique.

The TCS Sydney Marathon has grown into far more than a race, with a week-long festival programme including Motion Festival at Customs House from 27–30 August, free city-wide entertainment, and live race coverage broadcast nationally on SBS.
On marathon day, spectators can also enjoy major entertainment hubs at Driver Avenue and Mrs Macquarie's Chair, creating a festival atmosphere across the city.
But if you're looking for the place where Sydney's sporting spirit meets its most vibrant cultural heart, head to Oxford Street Rainbow Precinct.
