TCS Sydney Marathon Road Closures and Transport Guide Ahead of Sunday's Event
The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS will welcome over 40,000 participants and 150,000 spectators along its iconic course this Sunday, 15 September. A sellout field of over 25,000 runners will participate in the flagship TCS Sydney Marathon, making it the largest marathon in Australian history. A further 15,000 participants will take part in the TCS Sydney Marathon 10km and the TCS Sydney Mini Marathon 4.2km.
Event organisers are urging Sydneysiders to plan ahead and opt for public transport, as major roads along and around the event routes will be closed. Sydney’s new Metro, along with other public transport services, will play a crucial role in transporting thousands of participants to the North Sydney start line, with public transport costs included in race entry. Given the scale of the event, residents are reminded to plan their travel carefully on race day, avoid driving near the route, and rely on public transport.
“The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS provides an incredible opportunity for tens of thousands of participants from Sydney, interstate and overseas to enjoy the rare privilege of running across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, traffic-free,” said Wayne Larden, TCS Sydney Marathon Event Director. “With spectators flocking to the course to witness one of Australia’s most spectacular events, we understand that this may affect some residents’ plans.
“We encourage local residents to take note of the road closures and to plan their travel accordingly, so they can either join in the excitement or minimise any disruptions to their day.”
Additional train and bus services will run throughout the day, allowing more stress-free time to enjoy the action on course, including extra early-morning transport services to the new start line at North Sydney Oval:
