Travel for Sixers fans easier than ever in WBBL|10
Sixers fans travelling to Weber WBBL|10 matches at North Sydney Oval will have even more reason to celebrate this season, with the inclusion of public transport via Sydney Metro and the Sydney Trains network in all match-day tickets.
Fans attending Sixers matches at North Sydney Oval will have the choice of commuting on the Metro, exiting at the brand-new Victoria Cross station, or travelling via train and making the short walk from the North Sydney station.
Conveniently located just 350 metres from the venue, the new metro station will increase the ease of access for Sixers fans, allowing supporters to travel safely to and from the ground.
The newly opened Victoria Cross station is fully accessible, safe and reliable, with trains as often as every four minutes during peak times.
For fans travelling via the train, North Sydney station remains a convenient option for supporters across Sydney, with the station a short ten-minute walk from North Sydney Oval.
One of the most vibrant and welcoming grounds in the country, North Sydney Oval has long been the premier cricket ground for women, with fans able to get closer to the action on-field while enjoy the surrounds of all North Sydney has to offer off-field.
Sydney Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes said the inclusion is a huge win for Sixers fans.
“As a club, we want to ensure that our fans have the best possible experience at each of our match days. That extends from their experience at the ground, to each interaction they have with our playing group, through to their travel to and from the venue.
“Ensuring that our members and fans can travel safely and conveniently to and from our matches remains a top priority for our club, and we’re looking forward to seeing as many of them as possible at our home games this season.”
Minister for Transport, Jo Haylen said:
“The game of the summer is back and I’m delighted to celebrate the start of the Big Bash by making public transport free for anyone attending either a women’s or men’s Sydney Sixers game at the SCG or North Sydney Oval.
“Last season 95,000 spectators attended Women’s Big Bash, a 55% increase on the year before.
“Integrated ticketing has been part of Sydney’s sport offering since the Olympics, ensuring people have that little extra incentive to leave the car at home and jump on public transport. With the cost of transport now included with your WBBL ticket, it’ll now be even easier for people to make the most of another exciting season."
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:
“Nothing beats the action and excitement of a good game of Big Bash cricket on a beautiful summer evening.
“Cricket Australia have launched a welcome plan to get 100,000 girls aged 5-12 playing cricket by 2034, and 600,000 attendees a year filling the stands at Women’s cricket matches.
“We’re doing our bit to help out by providing free public transport to all Big Bash League attendees, whether it be the men’s or the women’s league.”
Mayor of North Sydney, Zoe Baker said North Sydney Oval is an iconic home of women’s cricket in Australia.
“North Sydney Oval holds a special place in our community. We’re excited to welcome more supporters to the heart of North Sydney, not only to enjoy top-tier cricket but also to experience everything our vibrant local area has to offer."
Transport on rail only public transport to North Sydney Oval is covered on match days only for patrons with a valid ticket or club membership.
The Sixers will kick off their first home match of the Weber WBBL|10 season at North Sydney Oval on Tuesday, October 29, with home matches at the same venue on Friday, November 1 and Thursday, November 14.
The Sixers will also host crosstown rivals, Sydney Thunder, at the SCG on Sunday, November 10. Integrated ticketing is currently in place for all fixtures at the SCG and Moore Park precinct.
