UNITED CUP TO SERVE UP TENNIS SUPERSTARS FOR SUMMER IN SYDNEY

NSW will take centre court this summer with the inaugural United Cup, with Sydney set to host Australia, Spain, United States, Great Britain, Germany and Czech Republic for the round robin format of the tournament commencing 29 December 2022.

The tournament will be played across three cities, with Sydney securing the finals, which will take place from January 6 to 8 2023.

Minister for Tourism Ben Franklin joined Australian tennis greats Todd Woodbridge, Casey Dellacqua and Wally Masur for the official draw, where the top 16 countries were drawn into one of six groups.

“Sydney is ready to welcome international tennis players and fans from all over the world to our sports-loving city to compete in the United Cup,” Mr Franklin said.

“We are delivering on our promise to make NSW the major events capital of the Asia Pacific and providing the opportunity to witness the best tennis players right here in Sydney.”

Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said the official draw for the inaugural United Cup builds excitement for the biggest tennis tournament to be hosted in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics.

“The United Cup will unite the world’s top tennis players for 11 days of action, with some of the biggest matches to be played in Sydney, confirming NSW as Australia’s premier sporting State,” Mr Henskens said.

“The tournament will not only provide an incredible new experience for fans, witnessing emerging and established stars on the court, but also inspire future generations.

“The atmosphere will be electric and is another example of NSW’s undeniable ability to host major international sporting tournaments. I encourage fans to grab their tickets and celebrate the New Year in style.”
