From taking a seaplane to lunch on a beautiful beach to a luxury hotel stay and taking in its many natural wonders, Sydney makes it easy for you to celebrate everything from birthdays and graduations to anniversaries and honeymoons. Book out a weekend, create your own itinerary and make your next milestone unforgettable.

Highlights

  • Flying for lunch in Whale Beach
  • Climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • Enjoying cocktails with a side of city views

Stay in style

Located in the heart of the city, next to the venerable State Theatre, QT Sydney serves up city views and modern interiors with a heritage twist. Book a State Suite and take advantage of the rainwater shower and luxurious king-sized bed. Treat yourself to a pre-celebration reboot at SpaQ, where the therapeutic offerings will reinvigorate mind, body and soul.

The Langham Sydney is another luxe city sanctuary. It’s tucked away on Kent Street, providing easy access to The Rocks historic precinct and the Barangaroo dining hub. The Langham’s plush rooms overlook either the city skyline or western side of the harbour. The Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood service is legendary, but there’s also treasure to be found underground, at The Day Spa by Chuan. There’s a 20m indoor heated pool, a hot tub and steam rooms to linger in before or after your massage — this is decadence at its best.

A recent addition to the city’s hotel offerings, Little National Hotel rises above Wynyard Station, on Clarence Street, and offers easy access to Barangaroo. Proving that big isn’t always best, the rooms here are compact with a minimalist vibe, but the bonuses are plenty — the king-sized bed is super-comfortable and the bathroom has a rain shower and luxe Appelles Apothecary & Lab toiletries. The rooftop terrace, bar and lounge are an additional treat.

Wine and dine

After you’ve settled into your hotel and indulged in a spa treatment, it’s time to clink your glasses. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink high above the harbour at one of the city’s most iconic bars — Blu Bar on 36, located within the Shangri-La Hotel in The Rocks. A creative cocktail menu is presented against a backdrop of uninterrupted Sydney views.

At Barangaroo House, start your evening on the rooftop at Smoke Bar, where the spritzy, sophisticated cocktails are as refreshing as the sky-high setting. Dinner at BEA Restaurant is equally as inspired — fuss-free dishes flow with the seasons and are matched with world-class wines and classic cocktails.

Also located within the Barangaroo precinct, Banksii Vermouth Bar & Bistro is Australia’s first vermouth bar and restaurant. The comprehensive drinks list includes vermouth varieties from within Australia and around the world, and the food menu is contemporary, light and fresh, with a Mediterranean vibe. Finish up with the vermouth-infused trifle for dessert.

For a memorable milestone evening, savour the eight-course tasting menu at Quay, where executive chef Peter Gilmore showcases the finest local ingredients in his inventive, nature-inspired dishes. It’s a magical dining experience designed to leave a lasting impression.

Make new memories

Hopping on a seaplane to be whisked away for an epic dining experience at Jonah’s at Whale Beach is a thrilling way to mark your special occasion. Make your way to the Sydney Seaplanes terminal in Rose Bay, and depart on an aerial tour of Sydney Harbour and the Northern Beaches before arriving at Jonah’s. Enjoy a memorable multi-course lunch overlooking the ocean, then take a return seaplane ride back to the city.

Climbing to the summit of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge is an unforgettable experience that sees you climbing 1,332 steps and rewards you with panoramic views of the harbour. BridgeClimb Sydney provides all the outdoor gear you’ll need and ensures the three-hour return journey is an adventure from start to finish.

If you’d rather be on the water, book in for a premium dining cruise with Captain Cook Cruises. The Gold Penfolds Dinner Cruise includes a six-course degustation menu matched with Penfolds wines, guaranteed window seating, live music and dazzling views. The cruise loops around the harbour twice, giving you the opportunity to take in Sydney’s beauty from every aspect.

Sweeten the experience

Before it’s time to head home, treat yourself to a sweet taste sensation. The Tea Room QVB, located inside the opulent Queen Victoria Building, is renowned for its Sparkling High Tea, which includes a selection of finger sandwiches, petit fours, sweet and savoury pastries, scones with preserve and clotted cream, tea or coffee and a glass of Australian sparkling wine. Afterward, hit up the high-end boutiques within this historic building.

Black Star Pastry, with an outpost in The Galeries shopping mall on George Street, is famed for creating the world’s most Instagrammed cake, a strawberry watermelon cake. Ice-cream lovers will appreciate the original flavours scooped up at Gelato Messina, in Circular Quay. Along with the permanent flavours — including blood orange; chocolate fondant; pistachio praline; and salted caramel and white chocolate — specials appear regularly but are only available for seven days. Once you’ve made your selection, take a stroll through the lush Royal Botanic Garden Sydney — it’s a quintessentially Sydney experience and a worthy way to end your celebrations.
