Vivid Sydney is all about putting you at the centre of the action. With a variety of interactive and immersive light installations across each of the five festival zones, you're invited to experience the festival with all your senses.

Among the dazzling creations lining the free Vivid Sydney Light Walk you’ll find works that invite you to describe a dream, sculptures that react to your movements and surreal spaces that shift your perspective. Expect playful and ever-changing experiences you'll want to return to time and again across the 23 nights of the festival. See below how and where you can get involved with the interactive light displays across the festival.

Express yourself in The Rocks

See your artistic vision come to life on the ASN Co Building in The Rocks in Colour The City. Each week, the 19th-century clock tower and facade will transform with artistic submissions from the public, creating a dynamic showcase that celebrates community creativity.

Around the corner, step into Bloom at the historic Argyle Cut tunnel, where mesmerising projections of stars, fungi and bioluminescent plants surround you amid a soundscape of water droplets and exploding spores. Scan the AR code with your phone to shape the projections yourself, a powerful reminder of our collective ability to influence the planet's future.

A blooming, striking work illuminates Cadmans Cottage with Stem, where you speak, whisper or even sing a dream into a giant flower microphone. Just as your mind processes your experiences via dreams, Stem transforms the volume, pitch and cadence of your voice into colours, growth patterns and shapes of the ‘dream tree’ projected onto the cottage facade.

Away from the harbour, the sandstone, wood and steel pillars of the Museum of Sydney’s permanent installation Edge of Trees  are joined for Vivid Sydney by the illuminated poles and soundscapes of Symphony of the Dreaming. Trace the ancient Songlines of NSW as light and sound react to your movements, creating a connection to Country in this portal to the past by Dharawal and Yuin artist Alison Page and creative technologist and composer Charlie Chan.

Dare to dream in Martin Place

Deeper in the city centre, explore the power of dreams via The Lucid Dream Collective in Martin Place. Step into an AI-powered photo booth to be photographed and transformed with your preferred “dream treatment”, which you can add to the dreamscape projected onto building facades or share via social media.

Lose yourself in the surreal garden of Flowers’ Power, as giant mirrored flowers planted in Martin Place scatter beams of light and create shadows on the ground and nearby buildings.

Then float downhill for a block and enter Chasing Dreams Tunnel, a passageway of fairy lights rendered in the expressive style of Bundjalung artist Bronwyn Bancroft and brought to life by Christmas lights specialists Chas Clarkson. Gaze up at a canopy of lights that respond to your movements as if you’re in a dream unfolding in real time.

Blur reality in Barangaroo

Cross under the Sydney Harbour Bridge to explore the installations in the Barangaroo harbourside precinct’s expansive Barangaroo Reserve. Head to the headland park’s Sea Wall Lawn and step into Trispheric Garden’s circle of six obelisks of light, which bounce and bend light and sound to shape-shift perspectives as you move within the space.

At Walumil Lawns, in Barangaroo Reserve, Fly to the moon’s swing is positioned in front of a giant inflatable moon, inviting you to gently swing, becoming the “man in the moon” for a fleeting moment. This interactive installation is a celebration of curiosity and ambition, a playful reminder to dream big, aim high and let your imagination take flight.

Find delight in Darling Harbour

Journey to Cockle Bay where Samsung Electronics Australia's Space to Dream creates a spectacular vision of three iridescent floating waterfalls that transform into dynamic canvases of light and motion. This dazzling installation goes beyond visual wonder by inviting your participation and step into the interactive Dream Generator zone and take the surreal opportunity to virtually walk on water, moving up close to the towering structures as the dream unfolds around you.

Follow the glow to Darling Harbour’s Tumbalong Park, where you’ll come across the Joan Miró-inspired surrealist seesaws of Curiosity. Take a seat as the eye-shaped sculpture topping your seesaw watches on, then rock up and down to create a collection of sounds that combine with the other five seesaws.

Then wander over to Darling Quarter Village Green, just beside the Tumbalong Park stage to discover more playful andinteractive  installations. Take a seat on The Cloud Swing below a cluster of softly illuminated white spheres, which burst into colour as you rock back and forth.

Keep the good vibes coming on the Darling Quarter Village Green with a game of Kickit Team Tennis – stamp the footpad to serve a pulse of light to the player at the opposite end of a ‘court’ lined with glowing orbs, and get ready to receive the volley of light heading back your way.

On the other side of the Tumbalong Park stage, a row of old-school British phone booths await in the Chinese Garden of Friendship forecourt. Step into one of Telephone’s booths, dial the ‘dream line’ and leave a 30-second message – describe a dream, make a resolution or simply leave a message for  to someone special.
