Discover new ways to relish NSW’s beauty this month – from rural and rugged escapes that insist on absolute relaxation to country dining flavoured with love and respect, and a dreamy drive through undulating hinterlands.

NEW FOOD & DRINK

Thirst in Bathurst
Bathurst’s Reckless Brewing Co has officially opened its doors and beer lovers will enjoy unwinding in the new Taproom. Open from Thursday to Sunday, the family friendly venue offers pours of their core range or limited release beers and a debrief of all the action on the mountain.

Dining for good
With open hearts and appetites, Armidale welcomes its first social enterprise kitchen, The Ezidi Place. The Sydney-based, social change-focused hospitality group, Plate it Forward, has partnered with local hotel Comfort Inn City Centre Armidale to serve the aromatic soul food of the Ezidi people of Northern Iraq, many of whom have settled in the town. Visitors can enjoy fragrant fare, craft beers and cocktails, knowing their merry-making is helping to provide employment and training for asylum seekers.

Refreshed farm fare
Tweed Hinterland’s bucolic beauty, Farm & Co is now serving deliciously imaginative farm-to-table fare from its revamped restaurant. The working farm invites guests to wander the grounds, pick their own sunflowers, and feed friendly chickens, before enjoying paddock-plucked produce plated by a team led by local hospitality gurus Mark Wilson (Osteria, Lolita’s Mexican Cantina) and Rachel Duffy (founder of much-applauded No. 35 Kitchen and Bar in Cabarita).

High tides
For lazy sessions in the sunshine, Murwillumbah’s Tweed River House has just opened its waterside Lawn Bar. Visitors can head over on weekends from 12pm to sip on exceptional cocktails and light bites and soak up the spectacle of the afternoon sun giving way to dusk reflected in the river.

NEW ACCOMMODATION

Cabin log
The newly launched Galong Cabins in the Blue Mountains National Park offers a picturesque place to unplug and unwind. Tucked into the wilderness of the Megalong Valley, just an hour from Blackheath, the two comfortably refurbished cabins are run by the National Parks and Wildlife Services and make for an immersive retreat for nature enthusiasts, hikers and those seeking a detox from daily life.

Manor born
With a legacy stretching back to 1877, the charming homestead of Rosedale Farm, just 7km from Orange, serves as a graceful portal into a bygone era. The diligently restored estate includes original servants’ quarters, which now serve as two luxe farm stays to supplement the six-bedroom manor. The property will soon add a pool, orangery and pool house to the manicured grounds.

NEW EXPERIENCES

Rail ride
Newcastle-based Newy Rides has launched a new cycling experience, The Fernleigh Explorer. Following the popular 15km rail trail, the Fernleigh Track, visitors will pedal through forested corridors, bushscapes and wetlands, spotting rail relics, learning about local railway history, and discovering the area’s significance for the local Awabakal people.

Caught in the net
Port Macquarie just levelled-up its amusement quota with the opening of the WildNets Adventure Park in the Guulabaa Precinct of Cowarra State Forest. The netted treetop playground is slung with 39kms of ropes and cables, connecting treehouses, slides, ball pits, and bridges. With fifty per cent of profits funnelled into the new Wild Koala Breeding Program at Guulabaa, there’s more reason than just sheer fun to throw yourself into the action.
