Reset and recharge in a tiny home —cabins with a minimalist aesthetic that are small in size, but big on character. You’ll find them in secluded spots right across New South Wales.

Unplug with Unyoked

Environmental warriors and twin brothers Cam and Chris Grant are the brains behind Unyoked, which offers a selection of secluded, off-grid mini-cabins scattered across New South Wales and beyond. Unplug and unwind at the likes of Pana (in the Byron Bay hinterland), Lila (in the Hunter Valley) and Coralie (in the Southern Highlands). The vibes are minimalist and retro; the idea is to simplify your life, stop being busy, and gain some perspective through a wilderness experience. The cabins generally sleep two, are within a couple of hours of a major city, and surrounded by nature. Pets are welcome at some spots, and you can pre-order provisions such as cocktails, wine and craft beer, which will be waiting for you on arrival.

Go Into the Wild

Take a tiny holiday with Into the Wild, which curates pop-up stays in tiny homes in out-of-the-way locations, within three hours of a city. These petite, portable houses (many of which are pet-friendly) sleep up to four people and are kitted out with bar fridges and stoves, hot showers, bedding, towels, fire pits and boardgames. You’ll find them on boutique farms and vineyards, and in beaches and rainforests, offering activities from horse riding to picking organic produce. Each cabin is named after its owner’s favourite book character. Try Robinson, on the Central Coast, Isabella in Orange, or India in the Shoalhaven

Kip at Kindled

The thoughtfully designed Kindled tiny house sleeps up to four and is hidden away in the Oberon Shire, about a three-hour drive west of Sydney. In your secluded spot on 100 hectares of gum trees and rolling hills overlooking a river, it’s likely you’ll spot kangaroos, wombats and plenty of birdlife. The well-equipped dwelling has modern comforts such as a luxury mattress and bedding, air-conditioning and a two-person shower with a view.

Retreat to Tilba Lake Camp

Tilba Lake Camp, perfectly positioned between mountains, lake and sea outside the cute village of Central Tilba, a five-hour drive south of Sydney, offers ocean pods (Archie and Georgia) with water views, pods in paddocks (Bonnie and Clyde) with valley and mountain views, and a luxury bell tent, Frankie. The cute pods are ideal for couples, with queen beds layered with soft linens, fully equipped kitchens and fire pits.

Ride on in to The Saddle Camp

In historic Braidwood, a three-hour drive southwest of Sydney in the NSW Southern Tablelands, guests can stay in a tiny home at The Saddle Camp horse-riding farm. While the children are learning to ride, their parents can bushwalk, have a dip in local swimming holes, or just relax in the surprisingly spacious interior of their stylishly decked out home, which features large windows, a compact but well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable loft bed (plus two single beds for the kids).

Watch the animals go by at Jindera Park

On a sprawling 200-hectare property 10 minutes north of the regional hub of Albury in the Murray region, this tiny home at Jindera Park has a fresh, modern interior and an efficient set-up, with microwave, bar fridge, loft bed and a sleek bathroom. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll love observing the creatures on the property, including horses, cows, kangaroos, goannas and parrots. This is a great place to escape and recharge.
