Follow your curiosity through the Harbour City’s markets and you’ll find its creative, inclusive heart beats warm and strong, all winter long. Whether you’re warming your hands around a steaming bowl of pho, striking gold on a vintage treasure hunt, or filling your basket with farm-fresh fare, every trawl through the stalls immerses you in the city’s eclectic, electric energy. Get started with this handpicked guide to some of Sydney’s best trading posts – from harbourside icons to suburban favourites – where you can browse, buy, dine and soak up the sunshine.

1. Triple your treasure hunt at Paddy’s

Step inside Paddy’s Markets and you’ll feel the pulse of a Sydney tradition more than 150 years in the making – across three lively locations. At Haymarket (open Wednesday to Sunday), you’ll find hundreds of stalls packed with fresh produce, souvenirs, fashion and gifts, right in the thick of Chinatown’s action. Hay Street Market, a new food and drink hub inside Paddy’s Haymarket, features hawker-style kitchens, buzzy bars and an urban farm open seven days. In vibrant Flemington, Paddy’s keeps the multisensory experiences flowing with wholesale and seasonal fresh produce and flowers on Saturdays, plus a Sunday market selling everything from seafood to homewares.

2. Connect with authentic Aboriginal Art

Be awed and inspired by the living traditions of 60,000 years of First Nations heritage as the National Indigenous Art Fair returns to Circular Quay, 5-6 July. As you browse more than 50 stalls of paintings, handmade jewellery, homewares and bushfoods, you’ll be able to connect with the artists, designers and makers who bring each piece to life. With two full days of live performances, panel discussions, traditional tucker tastings and workshops, this is a rare chance to immerse yourself in the timeless culture, creativity and community at the heart of the Harbour City.

3. Choose your own organic adventures

Soak up the inclusive community atmosphere as you join the locals on their weekly shop at Organic Food Markets, which pop up from Darlinghurst and Leichhardt to Ramsgate, Double Bay and beyond on Saturdays and Sundays. Each open-air marketplace has its own special character, fare and wares, with stalls offering certified organic produce, artisan cheeses, small-batch gourmet goods, fresh breads and seasonal treats like locally foraged truffles. Add live music, food trucks and coffee carts, and you’ve got an easy-breezy winter outing that makes sustainable shopping feel like second nature.

4. Join Paddington’s chic and elite

Make the city your catwalk at fashion-forward Paddington Markets, connecting local fashion designers, artisans, jewellery makers and visual artists since 1973. Held every Saturday morning in the heritage-listed grounds of Paddington Uniting Church on Oxford Street, the market has 150 stalls selling everything from clothing and accessories to homewares and organic skincare – all just a button’s throw from the style mecca of the Paddington Intersection

5. Become part of the buzz in Chinatown

Kickstart your weekend with a moreish meander through Chinatown’s multi-sensory night market, held every Friday from 4pm to 11pm. Dixon Street glows with lantern light, while the air fills with the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling skewers and sweet pastries as you explore more than 50 stalls dishing up tasty Asian street food and authentic desserts. Alongside the smorgasbord of flavours, you can pick up one-of-a-kind gifts, handicrafts and style finds from Asian-Australian artists and designers, and revel in the energy of live music, dance and cultural performance.

6. Enjoy art, beats and eats on the Harbour’s edge

Step into the historic heart of Sydney at The Rocks Markets, where every Saturday and Sunday more than 70 curated stalls reveal the city’s enduring energy and passion for creativity on cobbled lanes first laid in the late 1700s. Here, you’ll find handmade jewellery, designer fashion, original photography and artisan homewares crafted by local makers. Fuel your wander with gourmet street eats, enjoy the live music drifting through the winter air, and delight in the colour and clamour of Sydney’s oldest neighbourhood.

7. Stock up in Eveleigh’s foodie hub

Rug up, grab a coffee, and savour the bustling energy of one of Sydney’s most beloved Saturday morning experiences as the old Eveleigh Railway Workshops host the Carriageworks Farmers Market. 8. Level up your wardrobe beside the Coat-hanger

Add a splash of iconic Sydney skyline to your shopping adventure at Kirribilli Markets, set against the spectacular sweep of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Milsons Point. Held on the first and second Sunday, and the fourth Saturday of each month, more than 220 stalls showcase the city’s creativity, with Saturdays leaning into new and recycled fashions, antiques and collectables, and Sundays spotlighting emerging designers, makers and artists. With live music in the air, coffee in hand and the harbour unapologetically sparkling like a living postcard around you, you’ll come for the wares but linger for the views.

12. Bite into the Inner West

In this diverse pocket of Inner Sydney, Sunday mornings are for feasting, stocking up and connecting with the community as the weekly Marrickville Organic Food & Farmers Market sets up more than 80 stalls on the old Addison Road army barracks site. 14. Upgrade your pantry and fashion in Bondi

Fresh, stylish, and just steps from the sand, Bondi’s markets move to its inclusive, laidback rhythm of relaxed beachside living, everyday glamour and glowing good health. Become part of the coastal community every Saturday morning when Bondi Farmers Market fills the school lawns with organic vegies, seasonal fruit, free-range meats and gourmet deli treats. On Sundays, the Bondi Markets take over, bringing a hive of vintage finds, designer fashions, handmade jewellery and eclectic art. Warm up with a chai, browse in the salty breeze, and discover why market weekends are as much a part of Bondi life as brisk winter swims and green smoothies.

15. Treat yourself to the ocean’s bounty

Famously flanked by bountiful waterways, the Harbour City is a flavour haven for lovers of fresh seafood – and at its salty heart lies the legendary Sydney Fish Market, open daily from 7am in Pyrmont. This authentic working market is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, offering not only a glimpse of live seafood auctions, but also a delectable spread of prawns, oysters, lobsters and sashimi, along with hands-on classes at its seafood school.
