From sun-drenched beaches and vibrant cultural hubs to nature-rich adventures and culinary gems, New South Wales offers travel experiences that are as inclusive as they are unforgettable. Across the state, experiences with thoughtful design and mindful considerations welcome travellers of all abilities to slow down, explore deeply and enjoy the best of NSW. Here are some accessible adventures that prove that NSW is for everyone.

Beaches for All

NSW’s stunning coastline is not only iconic, but also inclusive, with a growing number of beaches offering accessible accommodations that helps visitors of all abilities, from wheelchair users, to older travellers and even those with prams to enjoy the sea breeze, scenic views and coastal charm.

At the world-renowned Bondi beach, level access is available from the main entrance at Campbell Parade and on the northern end, with a flat promenade running along the beach for uninterrupted views and easy movement. While in Manly, wide, flat walkways are present as you alight from the wharf and make your way through the The Corso, allowing for effortless shopping and sightseeing before you even arrive at Manly beach. Where from there, the beachfront is accessible, with a wide, Norfolk Pine-lined promenade extending the 1.5km length of the beach and meandering.

Both beaches also offer accessible ramps to reach the sand and water, along with beach wheelchairs for rent (available by booking), and inclusive amenities such as accessible bathrooms and parking.

Beyond the beach, Manly is also home to one of Sydney’s most scenic and gentle walking routes, the Fairfax Walk. This 760m wheelchair accessible circuit includes two lookouts, Burragula, with views across the harbour to South Head and the city skyline, and Yiningma, which gazes north along the dramatic cliff line of North Head. It is also the perfect place for whale watching between the months of May and November.

For a quieter coastal escape, local gems like Collaroy Beach also boasts a range of inclusive facilities and is part of an accessibility precinct that includes an all-abilities playground and access to a Free Wheeler which provides wheelchair access to the sand and the surf.

Arts & Culture with consideration

Sydney’s many cultural institutions are committed to inclusive design and programming, ensuring everyone can engage meaningfully with the city’s vibrant arts scene. Tailored programs, including Auslan interpretation, tactile and sensory tours, audio description, dementia-friendly sessions, and more, can also be booked with two weeks’ notice.

For a classic cultural experience, head to the Sydney Opera House, which conveniently offers a Shuttle Service, providing an accessible courtesy bus between Circular Quay and the Opera House Forecourtfor elderly and less mobile customers, along with a buggy service to visitors around the precinct.

Inside the Joan Sutherland Theatre and Concert Hall, wheelchair and companion seating is available at booking, supported by lift access and Front of House assistance. The venue also offers theatre captioning, Auslan interpretation, surtitles, hearing loops, audio description and a range of additional services for selected performances, and welcomes guide dogs and assistance animals across all areas.
