Market Value 

Bondi Farmers Market, Saturday 9am-1pm 
Shop alongside surfers and boho-chic locals at this bustling market with a sparkling backdrop of Bondi Beach. Buy inventive vegan desserts, artisan breads and organic veggies. 
Picnic picks: Crisp apples from Kurrawong Organics near Bathurst; plant-based treats from Loie&Me

Manly Fresh Produce Markets, Sunday 8am-2pm 
Take a trip to Manly for a coastal picnic and collect heavenly hamper goodies from fresh berries to handmade pastries and olives at Manly Fresh Produce Markets. 
Picnic picks: Irish soda bread baked with local ingredients from Paddy the BakerLaguna Olives from the Hunter region. 

Marrickville Organic Markets, Sunday 9am-3pm 
This urban outdoor market showcases certified organic food and you can take a picnic rug and eat there while the kids play.  
Picnic Picks: Salami, cheese and crackers from Universal Fine Foods and golden-baked empanadas from Keski Pan
 
Carriageworks Farmers Market, Saturday 8am-1pm 
These markets are a Sydney institution — a vibrant and delicious spectacle, with everything from superb cuts of meat and organic seedlings to fresh flowers and boutique wines.  
Picnic picks: Deli goodies from Redfern’s Kepos Street Kitchen; smoked seafood from Paddington’s Brilliant Food
 
Sydney Fish Market, daily, 7am-4pm 
Seafood lovers rejoice: Sydney Fish Market boasts six seafood retailers, Claudio’s, De Costi Seafoods, Doyles and Nicholas Seafood Traders. Select fresh seafood such as prawns, oysters, barramundi, sashimi, giant lobsters, scallops and spanner crabs.  
Picnic picks: Sydney Rock oysters; Sushi Donut from Fish Market Café.

Aplenty, Leichhardt 
Order a picnic ‘spread’ box full of seasonal and fresh house-made food including focaccia, pickles and dips with delicious cheeses and cured meats, inspired by the Mediterranean. Full of fresh, local NSW produce the bountiful boxes are perfect for grazing. 
Picnic picks: The watermelon radish, snow peas, zucchini and eggplant in the Aplenty spread are from NSW, sourced by providore Shane Roberts from The Vege Box.   

Humble Bakery, Surry Hills 
The team from Porteño and Bastardo are behind this busy bakery in Surry Hills. By midday the fresh-baked slabs of focaccia are filled with all kinds of fresh ingredients, and the famous pink finger buns bring sweet nostalgia.  
Picnic Picks: Porteño’s Banana Old Fashioned; chorizo and marinated olives. 

Continental Deli and Bistro, Newtown 
The brainchild of Sydney culinary stars, Elvis Abrahanowicz and Joe Valore (Porteño) Jesse Warkentin (Bodega) and Michael Nicolian (Gardel’s Bar), Continental is a modern neighbourhood deli, bar and bistro. Fill your basket with charcuterie, cheeses, anchovies and fresh sandwiches.  
Picnic picks: Continental Cheese & Charcuterie plate 

Cornersmith, Annandale 
This is one of those quaint corner cafes you wish was on the end of your street. They make incredible house pickles and have a vegetarian menu based on ingredients from smaller, local suppliers.  
Picnic picks: A jar of their classic Bread & Butter Cucumber Pickle. 

Gourmet Life, Darling Point 
This rustic-style gourmet go-to has everything from truffles to balsamic panettone, foie gras to roasted Persian nuts and freshly foraged mushrooms. It’s also conveniently close to Rushcutters Bay Park for a waterfront picnic.  
Picnic picks: Moreish Menu Lavosh Crackers made from organic NSW-milled flour and Murray River salt.

Sample the State 

  •  Assemble a bespoke grazing platter with artisan cheeses and charcuterie from the Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop or pick up Smelly’s Own: Ploughman Hamper. 
  • For a seafood feast, head to Jim Wild’s Oysters at Greenwell Point on the NSW South Coast for freshly shucked oysters, tiger prawns and scallops. 

  • Shop a selection of local gourmet fare at Knights Meats and Deli in Wagga Wagga – most of the produce is sourced from within 160km of the store. 

  • In Duranbah on the NSW North Coast, sample seasonal fruit straight from the tree in a Fruit Tasting Session at Tropical Fruit World then fill up a basket at the onsite Plantation Markets. 

  • Honorbread is a family-owned bakery in Bermagui on the South Coast. They bake beautiful sourdough varieties, indulgent pastries and some of the best fougasse (French flatbread) in NSW.
